Symbolic Public Mural in Boise, Idaho | Downtown Boise Public Art

In downtown Boise, Idaho, I created a large-scale symbolic public mural that celebrates the state’s identity and the rich historical and cultural character of the city. This public artwork was commissioned by the Alexa Rose Foundation and designed to serve as a visual story of Idaho—its land, people, and shared values.

The mural weaves together iconic state symbols and meaningful cultural references that reflect Boise’s past and present. Elements such as the mountain bluebird, Idaho’s state bird, syringa flowers, and the distinctive silhouette of the Sawtooth Mountains anchor the composition in the natural landscape of the region. These symbols are layered alongside references to Boise’s Basque heritage, pioneer history, and architectural character, creating a narrative that honors both tradition and community evolution.

Painted at a monumental scale of 80 feet, the mural was executed using exterior acrylic paint selected for its durability, color retention, and ability to withstand Idaho’s changing weather conditions. The installation required working from an 86-foot lift, allowing me to carefully develop both large compositional elements and fine details across the expansive surface.
