Floral Public Art Mural | Illegal Pete’s, Denver, Colorado
Exterior floral mural at Illegal Pete’s Restaurant in Denver, Colorado, by Yulia Avgustinovich, celebrating local flowers and community connection.

This large-scale floral mural was completed in August 2023 on the exterior walls of Illegal Pete’s Restaurant in Denver, Colorado. Commissioned by the restaurant, the mural brings attention to the beauty of local flowers while reinforcing the restaurant’s commitment to celebrating and preserving the region’s native flora and fauna. Spanning 12 feet high and 130 feet long, the artwork transforms the restaurant’s façade into a vibrant public landmark and invites passersby to connect with Denver’s natural environment.

The composition features an array of native flowers, plants, and botanical motifs painted in a colorful, flowing design that complements the architecture of the building. The mural serves as both an aesthetic enhancement and a subtle educational tool, introducing viewers to the rich diversity of plant life local to the area.

Executed with professional exterior acrylic paints, the mural required careful planning and coordination. Upper-wall sections were completed using a scissor lift to safely access elevated areas. The process emphasized precision and continuity across the expansive surface, ensuring a cohesive visual experience from one end of the wall to the other. This project showcases the artist’s ability to create immersive, site-specific murals in collaboration with clients, while honoring the surrounding community and environment.

The mural now stands as a vibrant contribution to Denver’s downtown streetscape, highlighting the city’s natural beauty and the restaurant’s values. It provides a dynamic, colorful backdrop for the neighborhood and reinforces the idea that public art can engage, educate, and inspire on a daily basis.
