Bringing Nature Indoors: A Heartfelt Murals for a Sage Living Nursing Home in Jackson, Wyoming. I painted these two murals in my studio in Colorado and later delivered them to the senior living facility.
The first mural features native to the state of Wyoming Indian Paintbrush Flowers.
The process of painting the mural with the Indian paintbrush flowers.
The mural prominently features the Indian paintbrush flower, Wyoming’s state flower, with its vivid red-orange hues.
Creating a welcoming and uplifting environment is especially important in spaces like nursing homes, where art can provide comfort, joy, and a connection to the world outside. The second mural has a local nature-inspired theme, it is designed to celebrate the area’s local birds, flora, and iconic mountain landscapes.
The goal of this mural was to bring the serene beauty of Wyoming’s outdoors into the nursing home. By incorporating native plants and birds, the artwork serves as a gentle reminder of the region’s natural splendor while fostering a calming and restorative atmosphere for residents and visitors.
A Natural Color Palette
- Soft greens, earthy tones, and vibrant floral accents were chosen to evoke the feeling of an open meadow under the Wyoming sky.
- This palette creates a tranquil environment while reflecting the region’s authentic landscape.
Local Birds
- Wyoming is home to many stunning bird species, including mountain bluebirds, Clark’s nutcrackers, and majestic herons and hawks.
- These birds were painted in their natural poses—perched, in flight, or resting among the flowers—adding a sense of life and movement to the mural.
The design process began with research into the local ecosystem, ensuring every element reflected the area’s unique biodiversity.
Murals like this go beyond aesthetics—they can improve mental well-being and emotional health. Studies have shown that nature-inspired art can:
- Reduce stress and anxiety.
- Foster a sense of nostalgia and connection.
- Encourage social interactions among residents and visitors.
This mural now serves as a vibrant focal point in the nursing home, offering a daily connection to the great outdoors, even on the snowiest Wyoming days.
